I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
I once had to embark on a personal project and just before I began I remember I kept thinking and asking myself, Yami, can you do this? Are you sure you won’t lose enthusiasm after the first day or after the first week? What if you are unable to complete this? These thoughts were fixed on my mind. The first day came and I did it. I actually surprised myself because I honestly didn’t think I could pull through… LOL. Surpassing my expectation on the first day eventually made me begin to question my thoughts regarding the project. As I questioned I got answers, which I want to share with you.
1) As a man thinks in His heart so he is. A man out of the good of his heart brings forth good fruits and out of the bad in his heart brings out bad fruits (paraphrase) Luke 6:45
I was self-sabotaging myself. I already was looking forward to failing before I started. Instead of encouraging myself, I was laughing at myself, thinking about how I wouldn’t be able to achieve the goal I had set out to achieve. If I fail in my mind it was only a matter of time before I manifested it outwardly.
2) The righteous man may fall several times but he will surely rise again.
There may be days when I won’t feel enthusiastic, there may be days when I will fall, I realize it may not be rosy because it involves pushing beyond my familiar boundaries and limits but in the end, I will be fine. I have to give myself permission to make progress and not seek perfection. To go after Grace. I have to appreciate every effort I make, even on the days when it seems like I did very little. Every effort counts and every step counts. As long as I keep moving, I will achieve that which I have set out to accomplish.
3) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
I had those self-sabotaging thoughts because I was looking at my strength alone. I have to take my eyes off me and focus on God. He really does care about everything that concerns me and he is interested in every part of my life. So eyes off me and eyes on Him.
Here’s why I am sharing this though, I know there is someone out there who has a God-given dream, idea, a purpose and you are stuck thinking can I do this? Am I qualified? But I am not good enough. You may not even be paying attention to what is going on in your head (of which you should totally pay attention to by the way, cause you need to bring every thought into subjection). Whatever thought that is going through your mind right now, if it is not helping you move towards fulfilling that dream then it is sabotaging you.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Yup, think good about yourself and your purpose and in case you are wondering; Yes. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY GOOD ENOUGH. Yes, You. The road to achieving that dream won’t be smooth, there will be valleys and hills but with God on your side, you will come out strong.
Be still and know that He is God. Eyes off you and Eyes on God.
You Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Gives you Strength.
