The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.
Luke 2:20 NLT
Whatever happened to the shepherds though? I hope it didn’t end with them hearing and seeing. I hope it didn’t end with the euphoria and hullabaloo of this moment.
Scripture doesn’t tell us much about what happens and how it ends.
But wait… What about us? We might not know what happened with the shepherds but we know what happens with us.
Is it over for us after the hype? Is it over after the gifts? Or do we press in day after day, time after time, word after word? The good times? Bad times? In between? The ups, downs and the mixes.
I hope for us it doesn’t end with glorifying and praising the Lord for all we heard and see, especially in those high moments.
I hope that like the deer our soul longs for and sings his praises every day, every way and everywhere because this child, our dearly beloved brother of immaculate conception, wrapped snugly in a manger at birth, who sacrificially gave his life for us.
This child, our king, who still intercedes for us daily and keeps us blameless until the last day should make our hearts leap and sing for joy as one who has found great spoil. Cos we sure have!
Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace, goodwill towards men.
